Based in Los Angeles, California, 10 Again manufactures and distributes vintage style, ultra-soft, incredibly comfortable t-shirts for men, women, boys and girls. The goal when we started 10 Again was to produce a line of t-shirts featuring graphics that were unique and unlike every other t-shirt company on the planet. I mean, let’s be honest, how many Beatles, Star Wars, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, and I'm With Stupid t-shirts does the world really need? Apparently, the world needs a freaking lot because they seem to never stop buying them. Hell, show me a good Beatles or Star Wars shirts and I'm all over it. So while the original idea may have been to stay away from the obvious, this wasn't exactly the most practical or realistic option which is of course why you'll now find a few of these titles right here in the 10 Again Store.
10 Again has enjoyed great success with shirts being sold through major retailers such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Von Maur, Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. We've scored big with various styles going into iconic boutiques and A-list doors like Fred Seagal, Kitson and even Barneys. Started in 2008 by Matt Levy and Liza Browne, 10 Again has been lucky enough to hang in there and stand the test of time in what is quite obviously a difficult market. It just shows you that if you can be a little original and provide excellent customer service, things can and will fall into place.
It all began in the spring of 2008 when 10 Again secured the coveted Wacky Packages t-shirt license from the Topps Company. Wacky Packages were trading cards featuring parodies of popular consumer products originally released in 1967. The series didn't actually achieve success until it was rereleased in 1973 as a series of stickers which came packaged just like Topps main product, baseball cards; seven or eight stickers packed in a wax wrapper with a stick of Topps rectangular, pink bubble gum. From '73 until '76, the stickers became a cultural, trading card phenomenon with 16 different series ultimately produced. If you were anywhere from 5-15 years of age during that period, it's highly unlikely you didn't have Wacky Packages on your school books, your school locker, your closet door or even your desk at home (much to the dismay of your parents). Wacky Packages ruled and kids eagerly awaited the arrival of each subsequent series.
This success never could have been achieved without the contributions of artists/cartoonists like Art Spiegelman, Norm Saunders and Jay Lynch who were instrumental in the development of the Wacky Packages images. Keep in mind, this was long before there was a company named Adobe and anything remotely resembling Photoshop. All the images had to be hand sketched, hand drawn and hand painted; yes just like a real piece of art just as the true masters did all those years ago. Paper, pencils, paint brushes... can you imagine? It is these very images, each one honest to goodness works of art, that we celebrate with our Wacky Packages t-shirts. Since the beginning they have been the cornerstone of our line and we are extremely proud to have now earned our place within the history of this iconic piece of real Americana.
Please keep in mind that we are currently the exclusive licensee for Topps Wacky Packages and if you see anyone offering NEW Wacky Packages t-shirts, they are unlicensed and being sold without the consent or permission of the Topps Company.
10 Again was originally conceived as a men’s t-shirt line. We automatically assumed that our t-shirts would appeal first and foremost to the same men that were buying Junk Food t-shirt, Trunk t-shirts, Local Celebrity t-shirts, Altru t-shirts and any other brand of vintage t-shirts. Ultimately, what we found was that the Wacky Packages we had grown up with which definitely did appeal to men of our age (38-48), they did not appeal to the men that account for the majority of the premium t-shirt buying public; men who are between the ages of 15 and 35. At the same time, we started getting many inquiries from buyers from kid’s stores all over the country. Once again, it was the same age group from the 1970's that saw the appeal of the designs. Both boys and girls were drawn to the graphics just as me, my friends and most ever other kid in the country was back in 1974 proving once again that humor can be indiscriminate when it comes to different generations. For better or worse, a kids t-shirt division of 10 Again was born. This became icing on the cake as we were able to watch in delight as kids bonded with their parents over the humor, art and majesty that is and remains the Wacky Pack.
Topps continues to distribute new series of Wacky Packages with the most recent version released in August of 2010. We're happy to say that they're just as fun and creative as ever (although they tend to be a little more politically correct).
To complement our exclusive line of boys, girls, men’s and women’s Wacky Pack t-shirts, we have many other licenses and categories of t-shirts.
Browne’s Sports Trading Cards – These commemorate childhood/schoolyard games like Thumb Wrestling, Rock Paper Scissors and Dodge Ball. They make great girls for boys, awesome presents for girls, and perfect for men and women. Our rock, paper, scissors t-shirt was the most popular shirt at Nordstrom’s for a few weeks which was quite a feather in our cap. Who knew Rock, Paper, Scissors was such a popular game. My feeling has always been, "Always go with rock. Rock beats everything."
Jane Jenni Designs -- Finding Jane Jenni was a true coup which I attribute to my six year old daughter. We were at the movies one night when she came up to me with a little button she had basically stolen from the theater gift shop. It had a picture of a beautiful rendering of a lady bug on it with the word "love" written above it. "LOVE BUG" was the message and it was truly adorable. After I got done explaining to my daughter that she can't just take things from stores and that this is called stealing, I accompanied her back to the gift shop so we could return it. When we got there, I was overwhelmed to discover an entire box of these buttons each one with different word and picture combinations, each one cuter than the next. HAPPY CAMPER, STUD MUFFIN, BUSY BEE, FUNKY MONKEY, TREE HUGGER, COUCH POTATO, and on and on and on. After a bit of research (thank God for the internet), I found my way to the woman herself, Jane Jenni. We spoke for a bit, I plead my case, made her some samples and sure enough, she agreed to allow us to license her wonderful designs. They were an instant smash and wound up in the kids department of virtually every major, A-list retailer.
Beyond the buttons that acted as the impetus for our introduction to Jane and her graphics, Jane also manufactures her own line of plates, bags and coffee mugs which are currently sold in boutiques and specialty stores all over the world. These products can be purchased through http://www.janejennishop.com/. 10 Again is proud to be the exclusive apparel licensee for Jane Jenni Designs.
Very recently we picked up another iconic license, THE SATURDAY EVENING POST which of course features historic NORMAL ROCKWELL PAINTINGS -- Curtis Publishing’s historic and iconic magazine covers as well as their comprehensive library of Rockwell images make up this completely unique and different line of t-shirts.
Beyond officially licensed graphics, we also like to dip our artistic toes into the waters every once in a while so please also have a gander at some of our original images. This involves developing ideas with our own team of uniquely talented designers and artists. Many of these have found their way into great stores like Urban Outfitters and Forever 21. On that subject, if you've ever got any ideas for t-shirts or graphics you're looking to license, feel free to get in touch with us. We're always on the prowl for the next great thing. Who knows, maybe it might be you that has it.
10 Again offers men’s t-shirts, boys t-shirts, women’s t-shirts and girls t-shirts. Our shirts make great holiday gifts, birthday gifts, father’s day gifts, mother’s day gifts, anniversary gifts, valentine’s day gifts, Arbor Day gifts, etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is that our shirts make great gifts for anyone. We offer gift wrapping and gift cards upon request so please don’t forget to mention it should you want it. We also offer rush gifts with guaranteed delivery by date so please let us know if that is something you are interested in.
Lastly, we are in the process of updating our web-store so that all of our men’s shirts will be available in men’s XXL and men’s XXXL. I am 6'1" and weight 200 lbs and I'm sorry to say that I simply cannot buy many of the t-shirts I would like to buy because it seems that most of the stores in our country only cater to men who are 5'10" and 175 lbs or less. I'm not sure if the store buyers actually walk the floors of their local malls, but most guys simply cannot fit into the shirts they are selling. This is not to say that it's because they are too fat or just plain enormous. It's because for whatever reason, our culture seems to only want to cater to smaller sized people with little or no regard for the regular sized people like me and many of my favorite homeys. Did I really just use the word homey? I did. Wow. I'm gonna leave it in. What the hell?
